The Certificate in Global Studies offers students a structured approach to understanding global affairs and international relations, both theoretically and practically, from a range of perspectives. The challenges of the twenty-first century — ranging from climate change and forced migration to global pandemics — transcend national borders and demand coordinated, transnational solutions. At the same time, the rise of authoritarianism and the erosion of democratic institutions are reshaping international relations and encouraging isolationism. This certificate equips students to understand how global phenomena affect different places in different ways and to address these pressing issues while reimagining political organization and citizenship in ways that foster transregional and global connectedness.
Applications received before November 1, will be reviewed for consideration before the end of the Fall semester. Applications received before April 1, will be reviewed before the end of the Spring semester. Relevant courses taken before applying for a certificate count toward certificate requirements.
The Global Studies Certificate is available to undergraduate students from all academic backgrounds across GHEA21, including students in formal international relations programs and in different fields of study.
Students must complete five courses that focus on global affairs at any GHEA21 institution. At least two of these courses must be network courses a GHEA21 Online Course and/or Network Collaborative Course.
